Thank You
Thank You Hartland McDonalds
The DART team was called out on May 1, 2018 for a truck fire on US-23 that had spread into the grass and woods. Our runner went to Hartland Mcdonald's to get food for the first responders. The manager refused to let us pay for it. A big THANK YOU to McDonald's for supporting our first responders and our community!
Ice Rescue
October 16 - October 18, 2017. The DART team was invited to attend a county wide training exercise to canteen and rehab. A former school was divided into 3 sections allowing for 3 scenarios. The purpose of the firefighter training was to have working knowledge of RIT procedures and equipment. Each team was tasked with retrieval of a down firefighter.
Thanks to Chief Pless and Captain Bryan Hager (Team member Bernie's, son) we would be able to purchase an AED at a reasonable price. Another Team member, Kurt Stomlund, is President of the Hartland Lions Club) and informed us this great organization has offered to cover the cost of the AED! The Team was also given the opportunity, by Bryan Hager, to attend a CPR/AED class at the fire station. The majority of the team is now certified in CPR by the American Heart Association.
Livingston County's radio station, WHMI, held a contest called Operation Thank You. They asked for nominations to show gratitude for our local 1st Responder, Veterans, and local active military. DART Team members, Diane Zalac and Bernie Hager, nominated Roy and Linda Seifreid for all of their hard work in starting the DART organization. They were chosen along with 3 other community members to receive the award.
Sponsored by the Brighton Area Fire Authority
The DART team helped direct the runners to the Finish Line and they handed out ribbons at the Finish Line. The team helped serve bottled water, bananas, and bagels after the race. A few canine friends were also treated to a bowl of fresh water.
NEWS:
From the WHMI Website 2/15/2012:
A new team designed to aid first responders and victims during times of need is up and running in Livingston County. The DART or Disaster Action Response Team consists of 20 volunteers and was created to provide canteen services including food and beverages to firefighters, police officers emergency medical services and other first responders when they’re out on scene. The team will also keep responders warm and dry in the winter and cool in the summer in an effort to make them more comfortable while serving residents. The DART team was created by Roy and Linda Seifried, who say these firefighters and first responders are some of the most dedicated people and it’s a true pleasure to be out working with them. Discussions began after the Seifried’s approached Howell Fire Chief Andrew Pless, who then discussed the idea with other area chiefs and put it into action. The DART truck is in service and has everything ready to respond when needed thanks to the Ted and Jane Von Voightlander Foundation, which made a critical donation that allowed the team to purchase the truck and gear and hit the ground running. The team is expected to be self-sustaining and is funded through donations from firefighters. The DART program is a 501(C) 3 registered organization with the IRS and anyone interested in donating funds to the effort can do so. (Select Contact at the top of the page.)
